Farewell, We Rule

The naysayers were right, and, to be honest, I was planning on posting the probability today anyway. I had been waiting for new “community output” promised after Thanksgiving and seen none.

Truthfully, I reached 3 billion points and realized the only reason I was playing was to fill orders.

ngmoco:) announced today that they will stop the game entirely on March 31, they will stop downloading next Friday from app stores and they are disabling in-app purchases.

My book will still be on sale for those desperate to get to L80 before the shut down entirely. And I will continue to fill orders in my main realm.

For those of you who still have a love for the game, I suggest you create the designs you always wanted before it shuts down entirely. Screen shot them and send them to me at wrgrimore@gmail.com with your real name and I will post them before the game shuts down.

After all, people won't be able to see your kingdom after March 31.

Stupid marketing moves

I think it's time for companies to realize they are shooting themselves in the foot. If they keep accelerating the pace of in-app purchases and then shutting down games, people will stop playing altogether. I, for one, no longer even bother to download if I see anything resembling game bucks listed as an “in-app” purchase.

So sad. Such a great game and community. I’ll move on, but to what?

This is the 4th game ngmoco has pulled out from under me – don’t think I will go with them again!

    Hi,

Of course, like every WR gamers, I feel pretty upset, although I anticipated that the end would come sooner or later since there hasn’t been any updates at all for so many months, not even a “happy new year 2013!”. Ngmoco had promised new updates, they never happened, so I wonder why they did those promises.

Is there any way we can sign up a petition to show we are unhappy and we would like very much that Ngmoco to continue the game. It’s a way just to show we aren’t not happy and there is still a lot of us who wants the game.

How about a few posts of fun/cool things we can do in these waning months. Construct a picture of a middle finger out of gold lion statues? Spend all of our remaing mojo on accelerating job orders? I have found the Grimoire to be very creative and entertaining, and I appreciate the time you put into this blog and helping all of us. I’m over 4B experience myself, and you helped that a lot! Thank you!

I’m not happy with the idea that game developers think that they can introduce a game, cozy up to players, develop game loyalty and get players to spend real money in the game and then unceremoniously ditch us because they lose interest. This move on the part of ngmoco will ruin player trust. I want a refund of all my inapp purchases!

I hadn’t played We Rule in months, but I did today and saw the sad news. Like others, I figured it was coming. But it was still sad to see the official news. I thought back on the 2 years or so of playing religiously. Setting alarms to remind me to harvest crops. Striving and straining to earn enough coins for that next building. The novelty wore off over time, but I kept coming back. Heck, I even made a video for their contest a while back. I guess I won’t be coming back too much more.

When I saw the news I came here right away. I guess that’s a testament to your site. I appreciate all of the work and time you have out in here. It was a great resource and I frequented this site regularly.

I too am upset that this once fine game is coming to an end. I have been playing for 3 years!
I have however noticed a game on the Mobage website called Knight Regent. It is currently only available for Android. BUT, take a look..it is We Rule in a new form.

I like your suggestion about a petition. I don’t know if it would do any good though, Ngmoco doesn’t seem too interested in what their players have to say these days.

Two things really tick me off about what they’re doing. First, they could just let someone else take over the game. If no one wants to buy it, I’m sure there would be those who would be happy to just take it over for free and continue further developement. And really, why shouldn’t they just give it away since they’re closing it down anyway and will no longer be making any money off it.

The second thing that really P.O.’d me was the fact that along with the announcement that the game was shutting down, they advertised a new game they’re coming out with on the same page! Really?! No thanks! Why on earth would I or other players trust them after what they’ve done with We Rule and some of their other games?

I have been playing We Rule since the first week it came out, back when the first iPad was brand new. There have been two or three times I’ve taken a hiatus from the game, but then I came back with new ideas to incorporate into my kingdom(s). It just makes me sad that they’re doing this.

Thank you very, very much, Phillip. You did a tremendous amount of work tracking all of these details. I started playing just a few months after you did, and I managed to get a couple relatives (EvDav and KLyndy) hooked about a year ago. Your work made the game much more fun and we are all big fans!

(I am sorry about how they messed up the timing of your book so badly. That was a real shame, and I sincerely wish that it had worked out according to plan. We would likely have bought it if it had come out when it was supposed to.)

In any case, thank you very much; we are very grateful and wish you all the best. I’ll be keeping an eye out for you! 🙂

    Sincerely,
    CLindy

    Hi Phillip,
I’m very sorry to see the game go as it has been a daily routine (and fun) since the beginning.

I bought your book and it brought me back when I started reading your blog. I was so happy then to start filling up my kingdom with beehives until I read they were the worse return!

I guess I will just try to get to my 2 goals: 2 billion points and a realm filled with chess kings. I’ll probably never get there but I’ll try.

It was good to have followed you for so long and I wish you, and your family, the very best.
