Best Bets

I’m not including gifts among the best bets since you don’t actually buy them. But you should definitely consider replacing lower-income properties with higher income gifts as you acquire them.

  • Good Buy: The mongol residence delivers 85 an hour, almost three times what the ruby grove does for only 5000c more (and half the mojo). It produces every hour, so you would have to stay on top of it. If you’re willing to spend a lot of time with it, you will find it gets you to the next level far more quickly.
  • Best Return: The bird residence delivers 350chcp every hour, followed by the creepy residence (320). While more expensive than rubies, they even outperform the six hour return for diamond groves, and by far outperform rubies. Once you pass L60, you may especially want to start investing in residences even though they’re far more expensive. You will discover your cash return can easily support them.
  • Best Long Term: At 180000c, Odin’s statue is expensive but it delivers 180hcp. Since it turns around every 18 hours, you don’t have to sit on it. It also delivers three times the hourly return of the Poseidon founts at only twice the price.
  • Best Experience: The wisdom grove delivers 540xp every six hours (90xp hourly) but the initial investment is 160000c (this does not make it the best deal).

Cottages and residences can offer high yields but are also high maintenance. The persian residence yields 245hcp. The oriental and Mayan residences deliver 160 and 225cp every hour. Literally. This means you have to sit on top of all three to yield the full benefit. But if you think those are high maintenance, the goblin cottages deliver 35cp every five minutes, for a whopping hourly total of 425. But that’s a lot of work, and if you’re looking for income, go with the small cottage which is the same size and 1m cheaper. (The only real difference is the decorations on the large cottage and the goblin design).

The ordinary cottage returns change with such capriciousness I can barely keep up with them. Currently all four cottages deliver 10c and 5xp every 5 minutes which is almost as good as the goblin cottages (and much cheaper) at 187cp hourly. Of course, you will spend a lot of time harvesting, but if you need cash infusions for those expensive buildings at early levels, this is a good way to go).

These may or may not be seasonal but they only come as gifts, and the royal carriages require boosting. If you get a carriage as a gift, what the hell? It’s worth sticking somewhere. You will probably have to boost 50m to be sure of a royal carriage, which to my mind makes it not worth the return (especially since they’re not as pretty).

It’s hard to say which of the income generating properties make the most sense. On an hourly basis the oasis outperforms the ruby grove three to one in experience and slightly more than 50 percent better in coins. It outperforms the diamond by 2.5 times in xp and only has a slight advantage in coins. The oasis outperforms the fount by 25 percent in coins and only a fraction in experience.

The battlements, on the other hand, deliver almost 50cp per hour and can be used to create some interesting patterns. At 10000c cost they allow lower level players to start adding some quick cash and experience before the groves become available. I would go so far as to say you would be better off with the battlements than the orange groves. The ballistas deliver slightly more than groves but cost five times as much. They take up more space than a grove although they can be tucked together more tightly.

You can fit approximately four founts or groves into the space of one oasis The numbers will even out the more you plant.. When I try to stack them, I can fit even more groves into the same space and slightly fewer founts. The founts are slightly cheaper and the ruby groves cost ten percent as much (10000 v 100000c).

The wisdom grove is unique in that it delivers xp almost exclusively (kind of like the seasonal sleigh) at 90xp per hour. But it is also the most expensive item around. You might be better off with the ballista because 3 deliver 99xp per hour and an additional 19c but the total cost is 10000c less (and you can start building them at L17).

That being the case, the wisdom groves probably stack more tightly so if you’re sitting around L50 with boatloads of cash and need something else to stack, go with it,

The sapphire outperforms the ruby 2.5 times in coins and 2 times in xp but, like the diamond, you can only buy it with mojo except for the occasional cash sale (which will probably run close to 15000c per grove). If you’re going to blow mojo on diamonds, wait for a sale and blow it on sapphires instead (because of the reduced price of mojo). Until you reach L50 and have cash to burn, I still think rubies and founts are the better bets, and rubies still deliver a great return for their low comparative cost.

Other considerations

For high level players, with coins to burn, I would say it’s pretty much a wash. Make use of them all. But if you’re building your kingdom and pushing to reach L30 (and even 40), go with the rubies. The combined cost reduction and return for space make them a far better bargain. Drop an oasis in if you want the decoration (the first one’s free for finishing the quest), You will actually get a higher return in approximately the same space for about 40 percent of the cost.

This assumes, of course, that ngmoco:) doesn’t discontinue the Egypt quest.

On festive occasions seasonal items such as the holiday sleigh and Mardis Gras floats appear and then disappear after a week or three. The sleighs, which were tiny provided 25xp per hour, well worth the 7000 coin investment. The floats take up as much space as a ruby grove, cost more than twice as much in coins and deliver fewer combined points per hour. You should be able to guess what my feelings are on the subject.

Rathy1wrote in to remind me that the humble orange cottage can also be a cash cow. You can fit 12 in the space of four groves. But if you want to practice your stacking early, you can start with the and squeeze three to four times as many in (depending on how good you are). Higher level players won’t want to bother, but lower level players who need quick coins and experience can check in every fifteen minutes and run up the return fairly quickly. Make this part of your popcorn night.

Building alternatives

Players at the highest levels might consider a couple of buildings as income generators, and therefore worth stacking or building in numbers. The return needs to be weighed against the cost. In the long run they will outperform, but they will cost a lot up front. Personally I would invest in groves before the place of worship, but the high combined return of the Kraken make it worth looking it as an idle income generator.

Building Cost Mojo Lvl Hrs c c/Hr Xp Xp/Hr Total cp/Hr Space
Kraken 975000 55m 55 30 1280 42.7 2080 69.3 3360 112.0 2.5
Worship 850000 40m 48 44 540 12.3 3040 69.1 3580 81.4 3

Discontinued or seasonal
312 fit in the space of four groves, without stacking

All the above listed are “items”, whereas the fount and troll bridge are a “businesses”. If including high generating idle businesses at low cost (<100K coin), I would include things like the cobbler and arboretum which are inexpensive and high earners for the cost. Also, stacking businesses such as founts is not allowed.

As best i can tell based on correspondence from ngmoco:), they don’t like any stacking but they officially aren’t penalizing it except when done to excess. This includes buildings.

The reason I included the fount and troll bridge and not others is because they make more sense as rental properties than as businesses. They have a decent yield with a very quick turn around.

Poseidon’s fount delivers its return to customers in an hour, but that value will be eroded significantly waiting for the player to accept the order and then to return it. It would be just about the last thing I ordered (other than the falcon). But the rent income to the player is extraordinarily high. The troll’s bridge delivers in four, which also diminishes it’s overall value as a shop. But by itself it delivers 175 every eight hours, almost as much as the sleighs which were discontinued just before the bridge was introduced.

It’s much harder to maintain distinct categories any more because ngmoco:) seems to shift categories.

Also of note is the new Ballista. It delivers 75 coins and 135XP every 4 hours. Making its coin+XP per hour better than diamond groves (and it’s smaller). The surprising part is that it is the third best XP/hr earner at 34, below the Oasis’ 43 and the Fount’s 40. At 50,000 coin each it may be a better investment for the leveler than the fount (which costs 90,000) for filling in those gaps for non-stacking purists (like me!)

I was thinking, and if you want to level up you can use Wizard Towers for idle income. They take 8 hrs and return 150 xp and 10 c. If you’re desperate to level up the wizards tower just cost 1000 more c than the ruby grove and outperforms it on xp. It is also available at a lower level.

Good point. The thing is I have over a 100 ruby groves, about 170 I think, I I dont want to spend my money on the towers. I never thought about it. If you had given me this advice when I was a young player, I would have payed you:)

  9. kish123694
    Mar 12, 2011 @ 02:54:23

Yeah. I myself have about 50 ruby groves and don’t plan on switching because the ruby groves pay for themselves in 100 harvest and this allows you to buy more very frequently. The wizards tower delivers 10 coins every eight hrs and will thus take much longer to pay for itself. As I said only if you are truly desperate and have coins to burn you should do this.

I was just wondering, Totalthinker, if the Oasis is better then the Ruby Groves and to ask you which one you think I should get. I have around 430,000 coin right now and I don’t plan spending it all on Oasis’/Rubies but only 100,000-200,000 coin. My brother tells me that Rubies are better but the chart shows that Oasis are better so I don’t know which one to get. Thanks!

The oasis produce far more hourly combined points (140 to 30), however you can fit four rubies into the space of a grove making the relative return about equal at half the investment. The story changes if you stack, with the advantage going to groves.

I just got 34 sapphire groves with my 409 mojo. Was that a mistake? I was just thinking that I should’ve either got olympus’s or sapphires. I just thought that with sapphires in 50 harvest (with 34 groves) you get the money for an olympus.

  15. pattyaski
    Mar 16, 2011 @ 19:18:12

This chart seems to have some strange calculations. If the hours listed are correct, I’m confused about the oasis returning what it does when above shows 835 cp/h for 12 hours, which comes out to about 69.5 total per hour, not the 140 listed above. Also, the battlements are listed at 600 total per hour for 12 hours as well, calculating to 50 total per hour, not 100 listed above. Looks like the Sleigh, Troll Bridge, and Floats may be a little off as well. Thanks!

    Hey I have a question:
“Best Return: The battlement delivers 50cp every four hours and takes up very little space. But the initial investment is 50000c.”

Is this statement suppose to be “ballista?” and if so the total c+xp shouldn’t be 35.0

Just wondering since the math up there like the others are mentioning is confusing me and my decision making.

Hello all. Hey Totalthinker, under Best Bets, shouldn’t the battlement be under best bargain? because according to your chart, it delivers 50 cp for the same price as a ruby grove, while the ruby grove only delivers 30 cp. i think you mixed up the ballista and the battlement for best return.

  19. Superknight98

Totalthinker, love the charts and the analyses. Thank you for all of your work here. How about a rethink of the “old mine” as an inexpensive way to get a quickly get a positive rental return on investment ? e.g. at a cost of 1000 per unit, purchasing 100 units (costs = 100,000 coins). Assuming I can harvest twice per day (10h cycle) the return = 80 coins per day (16 XPD) x 100 units = 8000 coins per day and 1600 XPD. One can recover the investment in 13 days and be in the black. Conversely the ruby groves at 10 units x 10,000 coins per grove would recover the investment of 100,000 coins in 33 days (300 coins per day is what I can realistically get x 10 units). This all assumes that space is not limiting of course. I am not stacking but considering adding a second (East) kingdom. Having said all of this I am increasing my number of ruby groves in my Southern kingdom as an objective.

    All the best,

    • Totalthinker
      May 04, 2011 @ 03:03:39

The question is, are we talking idle income (rent) or investment return should someone order? My numbers show the mine at 8 coins every ten hours wich means 16 per day which suggests that comes out to 1600 (not 8000) for 100 units daily. Since the rubies only return idle income (and no more than 35 people can order mines), this would be the more reasonable return comparison.

Its possible they’ve boosted the idle numbers for the mine since I last had one, if so let me know.

I think the key here, regardless, is long term. As time goes on the mine is much less productive compared to the rubies, but you can install them earlier. That being said, the mine also takes up a lot more space than rubies, so you will receive more for the space they occupy.

i have a bunch of questions, mostly dealing with my favorite subject : trying to figure out the math !!!
but before i get into that, may i ask if anyone is having the same problem i’ve had for the last few weeks with the disappearance of the little signs above buildings telling us their status.
when i log in they are there (over the buildings in my realm and in other’s realms on the social list) …. and then they all suddenly disappear and i can no longer see what properties are available within other realms on thensocial list …. nor can i see, in my kingdom, what needs to be harvested.
i need to log out and log back in for the signs to reappear, and this they do but only forna short time.
anyone have any input on this bug ??? i have complained to ngmoco and theybhave given me the usual :”log out, shut down, un-install, re-install. but as usual, nothing changes.
would appreciate any ideas or comments on this issue.

i dont believe it !!! just wrote up the whole miserable question on this math and somehow managed to erase it before posting it!!! now i gotta start all over again !!
this question has to do with the advantages/disadvantages of placing orders and those of receiving/fulfilling orders.
i may have it all wrong and if i do can some one point out where, so i can finally get this straight.
i have been told, a number of times, that i have to leave spaces for others to place orders with me… but i have trouble seeing the logic.
please correct any of the following statements should i not have completely understood something.
    1) when i order from someone, i get coins and experience (???)
    2) when someone orders from me i only get coin (???)
    3) if i re-place orders as soon as someone delivers, i do not loose potential income between orders waiting for someone to place one with me eventually.
    4) i can choose to order only high yield items (kraken; edinburg, etc) when i place an order ; however, if i accept an order for a low yield item, it ties up my alloted ordering potential with low returns (i do not have the heart to refuse an order)
    5) if one of my “idle” properties is just about to yield some return (only a few hours left before “harvesting its coins” and someone places an order for that item, i loose all the income i would have collected from it when i accept someone else’s order. Furthermore, if i order from someone (wine let’s say) and i collect coins and experience from that order after 72 hours, and my vintage chateau is idle, the latter is nevertheless still earning and its ‘idle rent return’ is not lost. one can consider that its return is added to the profit i get from the order i placed in my friend’s kingdom. Now if that same friend had ordered wine from me, i would, grant it, get money from them but would loose my “idle income” in the process.
    5) if i order from others i can estimate delivery time to coincide with times i am available to collect order and immediately refill, this is especially true for night time (when i sleep) which does not necessarily coincide with the sleep or work time of others, especially if they are on a different time zone.
    6) i have to check this one : it seems to me that when i accept an order from someone, i am informed in the little popup box/icon, that i will receive XXX coins. I may be mistaking but, in some instances at least, the amount paid to me for filling an order is inferior to that which i would receive had i ordered the same item from someone (plus i do not get experience points ???)
i love totalthinkers latest charts they are GREAT … they tell me how much coin and exp i earn when i order an item. they also tell me the hourly rate of return in exp, coin and a combination of both for the order i am placing.
what i cant seem to figure out is how much i get when someone orders from me and how does that compare to my returns on the orders i place. can someone tell me what chart tells me how much i get when fulfilling someone’s order (and what is that called … is that what is called “rent” ?)
§) Last but not least, people seem to love getting lots of orders…. so, if i use my 30+ openings to place orders, i make alot of people happy !!!!
I have used a predominantly “order out” policy since i started the game. I am at level 45 and have had little or no problem buying what i want, even though, at times, i excercise some patience and restraint. I have moved along slowly but surely and have enjoyed the pace. Grant it, i am not very competitive and have not filled my realms with oodles of ruby trees or possidon founts that guarantee effortless returns (although i would HATE) to have to harvest endless rows of tailor shops or corner walls several times a day !!! …. how does one do that by the way ???) Then again, should one buy and stack large amounts of vintage chateaux and or temples because they are the latest “high earners” only for them to become “has beens” because another high earner is released by ngmoco a few weeks later, there is the potential for rather large losses as those items have a rather short lifespan as high yield items. Imagine buying 15 chateaux a some pretty high purchase price (they were quite the rage several weeks back) only to see that investment relegated to the status of “idle rent items” like so many other items that are no longer in the top 10.
I personally buy one of each, and then wait and see. My impression at this time is that ngmoco is coming out with at least one item a week which bumps the oldies off the charts before they can earn a decent return on investment.
Would love to hear others comments on these points, please let me know what you think.

yeah, i know moontown…. and just think, i wrote it all out once and was ditzy enough to erase it before posting it !!!! i blame it on the hubby who decided to ask me a question just as i was preparing to post it and i hit the wrong button ….!!!!! whew, was i pissed !!!!
the worst part is that i’m not finished, as i have a few more elements to add to the reasoning.
it takes me a while, but i do think alot and all that thought eventually solidifies into concrete words.
it must be noted however, that what i am expressing is only a point of view based on my very limited knowledge and that, if i am putting forth these thoughts, it is for the purpose of inciting others to give me their opinion so as to clear up any misunderstandings that i may have on the matter.
we have not yet heard from total thinker on the options for a “chitter chat” comment stream. i feel kinda uncomfortable using the posts dedicated to serious we rule strategies for exchanging mondaine chatter. on the other hand i really think its great to be able to communicate with each other on who we are, where we are, what we do etc.
we rule is a social game and i have found that, except for total’s site, we have really no options to get to know our “friends”. So a column where we could meet to chat would be tops.
on the issue of the missing status signs.: i wrote to ngmoco to ask for some technical attention to the problem and they gave me the usual log out, uninstall, shut down, reinstall litany. so i did it and it changed absolutely nothing. i wrote again, this time with a slight edge to my words, telling them that i was getting a bit fed up with the neverending and even increasing array of bugs and problems. that maybe instead of wasting their and my time constantly by having to answer bogus solutions to well know and widespread technical issue, they should fix whats wrong. seems more time and cost effective to deal with the root of the problems once and for all than to pay technical support to respond to irate customers with solutions that they know, as well as we do, will not be solved by rebooting !
hope all’s well with you, here its sunny and warm and i have gardening on the agenda for today !

hi totalthinker and all ye werulers,
i’d like to add a elements to my last diatribe on the pros and cons of ordering out vs fulfilling orders.
have done some comparisons on numbers.
if i place an order for a hatchery, for example, i get 610 in coin and 910 in exp.
if someone orders a hatchery from me, i get 820 in coin (no experience ???)
so there is a 210 coin advantage to having someone request from you (ofy) as opposed to requesting from them (ofth) that’s a 20% -25% margin (???? see my math skills are nil !)
i assume that wheter it is ofy or ofth the time laps to complete the order is 10 hours in either way.
question is therfore … is the exp worth 25% of the return in this instance ? especially since the down time between orders for any particular item can vary if one is using the OFY policy as opposed to the OFTH policy.
    comments appreciated !

sorry to go on but i’m desperatly trying to work this out. and i am synthesising with the below figures :
ok so we have in the instance of dragon hatchery :
    if i order from you, i get 610 coin + 910 exp
but during that time i am still geting idle income on my hatchery which would be ??? : 555 coin + 820 exp ?
whereas if i accept an order at my hatchery, grant it i get 820 coin, but no more idle income on that property for 10 hours … plus the fact that if that property had been collecting lets say 5 hours of idle income (not to be extreme and consider 9.5 hours) prior to me accepting the order … which, along with any gained exp on the idle income, can be subtracted from overall
    return, as a loss.
ok folks, i feel like i’m in math class with some problem on train times and like way back then, i’m very confused and would love some feedback.

wow chez!!! c’est incroyable!!! you have asked a lot of ? that I would love to know the answer to…one thing is the chateaus were paying out the best except the time was long, I dont think many peeps care about the turn around time, the price is good and you can get 2 for the price of one chimera. thats the only help.. I know that the majority of mine are still being ordered at, but yes hercules seems to be the fav at my place…i didnt even know about turnaround times for rents until I read this site a cpl months ago..go figure.. Have a super day and dont forget to plant accordingly for the shut down today..

    hi moontown,
yup, i know its a bunch of loooooong posts, but i’ve been thinking about this for a while and wanted to check with the experts on the logic. since i’m not too good at talking, let alone writing about technical issues and even less about math, i guess i over explqin from lack of know how and confidence in the topic. hope you’ll all bear with me !!!???!!!
spoke to ngmoco today and they are aware of the bubble issue and are working on it.
hope that what i wrote above is not totally incomprehensible and that total thinker has a moment to read and answer my queries…. or anyone else for
that matter… who has some insight into the question.

    hi pj !
i’m embarassed !!! i got so many questions and think too much. was like this in school, always trying to figure stuff out. some of my teachers hated me cause i asked oo many questions and was a tad too lively others liked me cause i was curious ?
yup, hercules was my favorite last week ! went nuts seeking them out and so much satisfaction when i found one roaming around in freedom amongst the oodles of buildings and businesses. visited lots of great kingdoms, explored the far realms of anyone who might be hiding a lion in liberty ! very satisfying the hunt ! but …. go figure how i decided that they were such a prize as, with totals thinker’s latest charts, the profit picture became clearer and it made me reconsider my objectives. this week i’m a huntin’ those baby dragons ! … quite less straining on the eyes ! to find lions one must search closer to the ground and can easily miss them due to their size and color, but those colorful eggs rise above all the others and are apparently a better buy.
so the egg hunt is on for this wwek !
sure is nice to wake up in the morning and read yours and pj’s notes ! its 7 am here in france, beautiful beautiful day, going to garden and take a long stroll by the sea.
so you speak some french ? c’est merveilleux ! hope your day is full of sunshine and happy wr hunting, planting and harvesting.
wish you and moontown could stop over for a cafè ….!!!!

Ok Chez and Pjs, you make me feel dumb. I dont know any French. I have a hard time getting my own language right. I have always wanted to learn spanish because it would be such a help at work. Every year I think I will take a class, and every year I put it off. I had 4 years in high school but that was, (omg) 35 years ago. Man that sound bad. 🙂 I lived by the Oergon coast for 5 years. I loved waking to the sound of the surf and the seabirds singing. I had to move and I was very sad. I hope to move back there again someday. I got up this beautiful morning and went to work. By the time I left it was sprinkling. I love that smell of a light rain on warm streets.Enough of me, did you get any answeres from total thinker yet. Ive been waiting to see what he thinks. And Pjs, where are you from? and why do you know french? Hope you both have a Happy Mothers Day. TTYL Susan (Moontown)

Every once in a while ngmoco:) brings the coin price back, although its been several months since the last coin offering. Given the move to mojo only buildings, it may be gone forever, but we can hope.

Totalthinker quick question. I think it is better to place 40 orders in other peoples realms than accepting orders in mine because if you place orders you still get the idle income from in your own realm. Example… If I place 40 orders on Thunderbirds and have 40 idle on my realm id get 80 Thunderbirds back but if I accept 40 orders and then can’t place any orders the return is only 40. Is that logic correct or flawed?

    • Totalthinker
      Jan 02, 2012 @ 04:49:24

With few exceptions, you make more coins and experience when people place orders with you. If you want to place orders as well create an account LordOnion2 and place orders from that kingdom. You can leave a message to players asking them to order from your kingdom.
